April 1, 2013 by capture-monger

The weather has been too nice to be spending time on the computer here in Bend, OR – so a tiny apology for the lack in updates recently.  Here are some up-lifting tracks to arm you for the week ahead.  (thanks to Freebreaksblog for the image!) GOOD LUCK OUT THERE!!

Outstanding Installations by Olafur Eliasson.

March 28, 2013 by capture-monger

A master of aesthetics, Olafur Eliasson has been blowing minds with his installations for nearly two decades.  Establishing a design studio / laboratory dedicated to ‘spatial research’, Eliasson is a deep thinker to say the least.  One of his most famous endeavors thus far, was “The Weather Project” (2003) which was held within London’s Tate Modern – the last pics in the gallery are snips of the install.  Below are some of his more recent projects. CONSTRUCTED REALITY.

RAW Guitar & Spirits in The Sky for your Wednesday.

March 27, 2013 by capture-monger

An apple a day is all very well and good, but I once heard from a wise doctor that the real key to health is a daily dose of grungy, gritty, guitar.  Below you’ll find a potion that’ll remedy any sort of day and or health issue (+ a couple bonus tracks fir fun).  (Thanks to Martin Rietze for the very appropriate photo of volcanic lightning in relation to Spirits of the Sky.) Surreal Stockholm Subway System

March 27, 2013 by capture-monger

So, apparently Stockholm has the most awesomely decorated subway system known to man.  Brilliantly combining minimalistic engineering with shocking colors and ornamentation, the city has created an aesthetic underground-cum-tourist attraction.  Alex Dragunov is a photographer who specializes in documenting international subway systems and has captured Stockholm’s system with GET DOWN THERE!

The Mania of Man Captured by Stephen McLaren.

March 26, 2013 by capture-monger

Checking the New York Times Photojournalism blog, the discovery of Scottish photographer Stephen McLaren was made.  McLaren has an adept ability to capture the lunacy and bizarre outcomes of human culture. ONWARDS! ( via NYT LENS )

Stunning Display of Balance by Maedir Eugster.

March 26, 2013 by capture-monger

Wowwww…. this video clip of performance art by Maedir Eugster is impressive in a very big way.  Finding exact points of balance on a dozen+ palm frond ribs, Eugster’s art is microcosmic – with such delicate balance in systems, a feather’s movement can alter an entire structure.  If you are an impatient viewer make sure to skip through towards the end to see the final product- gnarly. International Photographs to Contemplate on Your Sunday.

March 24, 2013 by capture-monger

Rounded up from the past 10 days of New York Times LENS photojournalism happenings, here are some modern events worth contemplating.  Probably my favorite is the Vatican’s dinky chimney – one would think that with the seemingly standard opulence of the church city would carry over to the signaling device for the new pontiff? MULLLL

15,000 Volts + Wood + TimeLapse = Distinct Art

March 23, 2013 by capture-monger

Who thinks of coursing 15,000 volts of electricity through pieces of wood?  Apparently Melanie Hoff does.  In a very extraordinary experimental piece of conceptual art, Hoff has time-lapse documented the strange erosion that occurs whence passing such a large current through the fibers of wood. SHOCKA
