It’s quite a blantantly obvious statement to make, but: the variety of events that occur on this planet in a given week is mind-blowing. From quitters leaving decadent religious cities, to people surviving in humble mud structures – from the intertwining technicolor smoke trails of air-shows to air-strikes that turn buildings into rubble – the Earth’s happenings are staggering in their complexity and volume. Here’s the latest collection of favorites from the past week from LENS. PONDER PERSPECTIVE. Thanks to […]
With Banksy being in the news recently in relation to a piece he did for the London Olympics this past summer being stolen off a wall and put in an Art Auction in Miami, (full story here), a small tribute to some of his great works seemed in order. A true living legend, Banksy’s work is thought provoking and incredibly digestible. BRILLIANT If by chance you haven’t seen “Exit Through The Gift Shop”, be sure to check out the extended […]
BooshmaClot!! Peep yir eers pon dis mix bredren an sistren!!! Put togetha by New Zealander Rude Boy ‘Soul Rebel’, this is without a doubt the best set of reggae I’ve ever heard compiled. A perfect way to start the morning, afternoon, or listen to in the evening – the beauty of reggae. SHABA !!!!!
First catching wind of Andy Goldworthy and his site specific environmental sculptures via research on Owen Mortensen (see the post on Mortensen’s work here), I have finally sifted through the archives of the internet and scraped together the collection found below. Growing up and working on farms, Goldworthy has always had a strong tie to the land, and feels natural energies and scenes deeply. Varying in scale and complexity, some of Goldworthy’s creations take days to materialize, and some (melting […]
As if part of a modern and hedonistic variant of religion, Russell Nachman‘s make-up wearing Metal-head angels self-indulge into pleasant stupor. Entitled “Palimpsests” (something reused or altered but still bearing visible traces of its earlier form), these demi-gods of partying blend classical stylings (check the gold leaf!!) with booze, cigs, and black magic of the modern day. Very interesting mixture and statement on debaucherous culture and religion by Mr.Nachman. ANGELS KNOW HOW TO PARTY.
LENS had a small feature on the contenders for the best photographs of the year in categories such as People, Panoramas, Environment, Split Second, etc. Here are some of my favorites, but to see all the finalists, head over to the World Photo Organization’s website.
