Cow Skull Canvasses.

January 24, 2013 by capture-monger

After seeing a steer skull in a consignment shop recently, I thought of how cool it would be to use as a canvas for painting on.  Skimming through a Google Images search for “painted steerskulls”, I pulled the most engaging of the lot.  CHEKIM-OWT! BEWITCHING MEMENTO MORI.

Abstract and Colorful Smearings by Yago Hortal.

January 22, 2013 by capture-monger

Thick streaks of composite colors are the order of business in the Abstract paintings of Yago Hortal.  Molten earth, flames, and fireworks are brought to mind when viewing Yago’s work.  Using collage at times, Hortal’s paintings are wild and intriguing. COLOR SLASHING.

TRUE CHAMPION. “A nation that continues to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.” “He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.  He who accepts evil without protesting against it […]

A Leaf as a Photographic Substrate? Photosynthesis Exposures by Binh Danh.

January 21, 2013 by capture-monger

Binh Danh is an artist based out of San Jose, CA who creates art based upon his ancestral home of Vietnam and the madness of the nearly two decade war that occurred there.  After graduating from Stanford in 04, Binh Danh has explored the photographic process and utilized photosynthesizing leaves as a ‘photo-paper’ on which he places negatives to produce a ‘leaf print’.  Real stroke of brilliance here. INNOVATION THROUGH VEGETATION

Photographs of Rainbow Fire.

January 20, 2013 by capture-monger

A couple weeks ago, an eccentric soul by the name of Lena N. came through town and unearthed a bunch of treasure from her storage unit.  The most dazzling of these excavated gems, were packets of powder entitled “Rainbow Fire” that claimed to alter the color of flames in a wood fire (ended up being a combination of Copper Sulfate and Sodium.  Tossing a couple packets on the fire, we recorded the effects with a camera- the best of the […]
