Banksy is a modern day prophet who’s work beckons the masses to think; and for that he will go down in the books as a legend. After taking on the challenge of creating art on the Separation Wall in Israel’s West Bank, it seemed like Banksy couldn’t take on too much more ambitious of a project; but Banksy’s latest month long tour de force in New York has proved a rivaling feat. Taking up an ‘Artist in Residence’ post for the whole month of October, Banksy crafted a vast variety of intriguing pieces on a daily basis (minus one day due to high police activity). Risking incarceration and heavy ‘vandalizing’ fines, Banksy has danced around the authorities of New York and bestowed an incredible gift onto the people of the world through this ‘residency’. Can you tell I admire Banksy? Welllll, let’s just get to some of the pieces already eh? Be sure to get the full experience (complete with audio guide clips for some of the art) by headed over to the Banksy NY website.
Without further ado, here are some favorites from Oct/, sprinkled with some quotes from Banksy’s final audio guide, which you should really listen to yourself by visiting the above link.
“If just one child has been inspired to pick up a can of paint and make some art – well that would be statistically disappointing considering how much work I put in.” -Banksy
Outside the Hustler Gentleman’s club, a disillusioned, stood-up man:
“Outside is where art should live, amongst us.” -Banksy
Holding ‘beef’ with factory animal farming, Banksy crafted this mobile piece entitled “Sirens of the Lambs” :
“Don’t we want to live in A world made of art, not just decorated by it?” -Banksy
“Art’s rightful place is on the cave walls of our communities were it can act as a public service, provoke debate, voice concerns, forge identities.” -Banksy
