Whilst walking around the Utah Art Fair June (’12) I came upon the booth of Owen Mortensen and was blown away by his work with leaves and bamboo. Using an exclusive process he has dubbed S3 (Selectively Skeletonized Sycamores), Mortensen stuns viewers in exposing the incredibly ornate veins and natural workings of a ‘simple’ leaf. Here is an excerpt from Mortensen’s statement from his website: “A common theme to Owen’s work is the concept of transition, progression and/or lifespan, portrayed […]
Found a few humorous bits centered on Spiderman recently and thought I would finally post them. The first is of Spiderman’s friendly but disturbing antics in the Macy’s Day Parade this past November 2012. The second is just a sordid meme from some sick and twisted mind. mwahahaaa.

To have the patience and precision to work with paper in the way that Maud Vantours does, it’s downright impressive. Creating multi layered and technicolored works that look like psychedelic portals, her work is appealing to those inclined to floral aesthetics. Also she has a stellar layered lamp that she has helped create that is one of the cooler lamps I’ve seen recently. PAPER PRECISION.

Suspended in time and space, Paul Veroude’s perfectly exploded F1 race car is a testament to the beauty of engineering and manufacturing. Meticulously stringing up all 3,200 individual parts which are the end result of “90,000 man hours of design time, and over 200,000 man hours of manufacturing”; the installation is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Taking into account that this vehicle involved over $50 million of investment over its career, seeing it displayed in its bare components is simply mind-blowing. […]

Very much in line with Banksy’s disparaging attitude toward capitalism and commercialism, Trustocorp takes swipes at the current state of the world and U.S. ‘culture’ with their appropriation of corporate logos and signage. The depth of their work is quite extensive due to being a national artist collective, please enjoy some of their work below. AMURIKA!!!

Very much related to the magnetism posts of late, the new Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is a magnet for ladies, men, and the road alike. With a 0-60 in 3 seconds acceleration, 220 mph top speed, and v12 engine, this car is a bit surreal. A SEHX MO-SHEEN!

After discovering the wondrous interaction of magnets upon ferrofluids and seeing the micro-sculptures created by Sachiko Kodma, the swiss photographer Fabian Oefner began to experiment with the medium himself. Adding water color via a surgical syringe to a bubble of magnetized ferrofluid, Oefner creates extraordinary bubbles of complexly cordoned color. MORE FERROFLUID MAGIC TO COME!
