Capturing Capacity

500th Post Parade + End of a decadal drought

Innumerable cycles of inconceivably intricate systems (interacting on unfathomable scales, generating this ever-evolving involution that is our universe) have transpired since the last addition to this conglomeration of data and anima known as capturingcapacity.com – how we doing?!  Put a less verbose / much simpler way: one decade (to the day) has elapsed between the last post (499th) and this one (500th post!), but as they say: “butter latte, then nerf-war.”  A lil wordplay for ya there ;} – “better late than never” is the real expression there in the case that was too left-field; if you got it on first reading: bravo.

If that silly phrasal bidnizz went north of your noggin, it’s likely you’ve at least put 499 + 1 together, and deduced that this 500th posting x-trav-aganza borrows thematic elements from the legendary Indianapolis 500.

Originally dubbed ‘The International 500-Mile Sweepstakes Race’, the inaugural event in 1911 brought in a crowd of 80,000, and saw its first fatality in the 12th lap; making it 101 years older, much more appealing, and considerably more death-ridden than this website. As the first ever 500 mile race in history, a new benchmark was set: the most advanced auto engineering of the day could transport a human 500 miles in the span of 6 hours, 42 minutes and 8 seconds – averaging just under 75 miles per hour.  The 109th race that took place 11 days ago (May 25th, 2025) was completed in 2 hours 57 minutes with an average speed of 169 mph.  More race stats and history to come in subsequent postings.

In attempts to keep it shart and skeet (short + sweet), here’s the breakdown on the celebratory 500th format: There will be 500 total ‘artifacts’ of various media broken into ~10 seperate posts with ~50 various curios each* (*the number of posts is subject to change, but there will certainly be EXACTLY 500 morsels to snarf 😀 ).  Each post will contain a neural tonic composed of art, musings, podcasts, books, photographs from the past decade, and (of course) musical pairings.  Speaking of which, please hit ‘play’ on one of the tracks below and let’s get into it.

Kicking off the 500th post parade, I’d like to share some photos of mine from the past year, which began with a drive from Utah’s Heber Valley to Morongo Valley, CA.  Combined with other side missions in SoCal (Joshua Tree National Park, and Bombay Beach), photo related travel in 2024 totaled ~ 2700 miles – or about 1100 laps around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Such a distance would be finished by an indy car racer in approximately 16.5 hours.  Taking my time, as well as 1000s of photos, I was on the road for ~11 days.  Here are 35 from 2024.

The revival of this ol’ site is gurna be clunky. Itsa gonna be punky, mega chunky, and certainly funky.  The main drives in resuscitating this digital outpost are:

  • To serve as a node in a network – sewing seeds and energy to see what might occur …
  • ‘Creating’: having an outlet / routine; developing a practice (or part of one)
  • Amplifying amazing existing art and thinking, as well as building / curating a Realm of curiosities for thought provocation
  • Justifying the countless hours spent on the perpetual searching and sifting for musical/visual/and mind stimulating treasures.
  •  Putting out a beacon for laws of attraction (shhhhh….it’s a secret ;P)

If you are reading this- big thanks for your time and indirect/direct support! There is so much to share and discuss! More soon!
