Incredible Environmental Art & Installations by Andy Goldworthy

February 20, 2013 by capture-monger

First catching wind of Andy Goldworthy and his site specific environmental sculptures via research on Owen Mortensen (see the post on Mortensen’s work here), I have finally sifted through the archives of the internet and scraped together the collection found below.  Growing up and working on farms, Goldworthy has always had a strong tie to the land, and feels natural energies and scenes deeply.  Varying in scale and complexity, some of Goldworthy’s creations take days to materialize, and some (melting […]

February 19, 2013 by capture-monger

Here’s a jolly tune that is sure to make you smile inside and out!  You may also recognize this as the origin for the sample of Biz Markie’s (seen above in headdress) popular “Just a Friend” track. YOU GOT IT !!!

Russell Nachman’s Unique Take on Holy Icons

February 19, 2013 by capture-monger

As if part of a modern and hedonistic variant of religion, Russell Nachman‘s make-up  wearing Metal-head angels self-indulge into pleasant stupor.  Entitled “Palimpsests” (something reused or altered but still bearing visible traces of its earlier form), these demi-gods of partying blend classical stylings (check the gold leaf!!) with booze, cigs, and black magic of the modern day.  Very interesting mixture and statement on debaucherous culture and religion by Mr.Nachman. ANGELS KNOW HOW TO PARTY.

Contemplation Material for your Sunday.

February 17, 2013 by capture-monger

Here is a thought provoking mini-documentary on oil production in North Dakota that exposes the unsavory facets of energy extraction / production and the grunts who make it all possible. SAVAGE.

A Real-Life ‘Where’s Waldo’ of an Eversest base camp via a Gigapixel Photograph.

February 16, 2013 by capture-monger

With digital sensor technology now boasting 1000 Megapixel capabilities, photographs taken of vast scenes can be explored with incredible detail.  Above is a photo of a upper base camp at Mt.Everest that is taken by a gigapixel camera.  Able to zoom in & pick out individual climbers (the feature thumbnail is of the tent camp at the base of the photo you can barely make out in the fully zoomed out image), and view the incredible texture of the glacial […]

The Fine Craftings of Maskull Lassarre

February 16, 2013 by capture-monger

Aside from having an awesome and unique moniker, Maskull Lassarre is a highly skilled artist that revels in the fine details.  Quite conceptual in nature, Lassarre’s works touch on the idea of human potential and the relation between resources and finished products.  Please have a look at a selection of his projects below.  To see the video of the rock dropping on the piano click here.
