Paintings of Cubic Radness by Tim Biskup.

January 10, 2013 by capture-monger

Based out of the madness that is Southern California, Tim Biskup has quite a unique style in his cubic approach to painting.  Breaking down curvilinear forms into polygonal planes, Biskup’s work doesn’t fail to intrigue.  Also, a huge fan of the cranial aesthetic, Tim’s renditions of the human skull are fantastic. APPEALING PLANARS

Make It Bacon Baby!

January 10, 2013 by capture-monger

Killer visual remix of the somewhat odd representation of heat waves on the hand dryers in public restrooms.  Here is a relevant story from my youth, and basis of my continued phobia pf said dryers: Reading my first snowboard magazine at the age of 12, I remember there was a section about pulling pranks on people. One of the public health hazards (aka ‘pranks’) was to take a used toilet tissue with humanure on it and rub it on the […]

PSY + Rick James = Super Gangnam Freaky Style.

January 9, 2013 by capture-monger

The Capacity of Influence and the phenomena of trending and viral-ness is certainly epitomized by the song “Gangnam Style” by Psy (who made a making a very awesome and humble appearance on Ellen [“Dress Classy, Dance Cheesy” awesome quote!][no I don’t watch much Ellen]).  This song is also an amazing testament to the human ability to create through re-hash. OPA !!!!

Whimsical Works by Rachell Sumpter.

January 9, 2013 by capture-monger

Using a vast array of fuzzy pastels and contrasting sharp gouaches, Rachell Sumpter whips up some seriously supernatural scenes on paper.  I’d continue to try and propound thoughts and speculations on her style, but her website has a way better sum-up then anything I can come up with- this excerpt is located below the gallery. “Rachell Sumpter paints splendors into a desolate, peopled wilderness. Using layered gouache and pastel, these are scenes at once of community and of isolation: figures […]

Mystical Mountain Paintings by Hannah Stouffer

January 9, 2013 by capture-monger

Immersion into the wilderness and raw nature is a crucial developmental component for every human being.  Hannah Stouffer was born to wildlife documentarians, and instilled a sense of natural mysticism early on.  Now based out of San Francisco, Stouffer is pumping out very clean and transcendental landscapes with intriguing froms and color combinations.  With a bit of influence from black arts imagery, Hannah’s compositions also have a dark-folkloric feel to her work as well.

Ephemeral Paintings & Macro Photos by Cliff Briggie

January 9, 2013 by capture-monger

Infatuated with the idea of ‘Transient Art’, Cliff Briggie works mainly with liquids, ice, and unstable media that are constantly transforming under the macro lens of his camera.  Like a new twist on paper marbling, Briggie uses ice and water as a medium in which to diffuse and paint & roll the dice for fleeting aesthetica.  Also be sure to check out Cliff’s Flickr Photo page to see the massive amount of work Briggie has amassed over the years. PSYCHEDELIC […]

Quirky as Folk: The Photography of Michael Carlebach.

January 8, 2013 by capture-monger

Michael Carlebach is an unsung master of documentary / photo-journalistic photography.  Few other people have been able to capture the insanity and quirkiness of the American culture, and on a grander scale, the folly and strangeness of the current stage of evolution humanity finds itself in. Hands down, Carlebach will go down as one of the photojournalism’s greats and has been a superb chronicler of the peculiarities of American life and the bizarreness of existence in general.  Some brilliant captures […]

Pieces of Mischief Robert Rickhoff

January 8, 2013 by capture-monger

Creating humorously ludicrous scenes in the public realm, Dutch artist Robert Rickhoff has a very sharp and clever mind.  Installing swing sets in traffic, injury-prone slides, and dark-comedy juxtapositions; Rickhoff is a master of translating the highly impractical concepts into thought-provoking dioramas.  Side-note: upon inspecting his profile on his blogger account, he also has incredible taste in music. ART OF THE ABSURD.
