Same Story, Different Scale.

October 28, 2012 by capture-monger

Taken during a leisurely road-trip from Salt Lake City to San Francisco, this series of photographs represent my most recent grappling with the illogical elements of our growth based economy. With a multi-day study of Vegas, a visit to a gold miners’ community, and a few relic townships – this album is something akin to a soothsayer’s speculations. Here is an abstract from my reflections on the trip: “Rarely, it seems, do many people lift their gaze from their immediate […]

Southern Utah

October 26, 2012 by capture-monger

Southern Utah is one of the most unique areas on the Earth. Considering the forces and time necessary to make all the geologic formations a reality, is humbling to say the least. Below are some images I have taken over the past few years.

Incredible TimeLapse Montage

October 25, 2012 by capture-monger

Tripped over this on Vimeo last week, and good golly is it something to behold. Definitely the essence of our capturing capacity. I believe it was all shot with GoPro cameras which is quite a testament to their power. Peep the quality production from Reid Gower (aka Video Sapien) below. A HIGH WIND ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR YOUR MIND

Vintage Travel by David Klein.

October 25, 2012 by capture-monger

On a serious aeronautical kick here, we now turn to some vintage posters from a legend in the illustration field: David Klein. This work gives a sense of the thrill, glamor, and freshness of increasingly affordable air travel in the late 50’s and 60’s. To bad they didn’t fully understand the repercussions of it all, but we get into that here!! Boneyard Project

October 25, 2012 by capture-monger

Near the border of Arizona and New Mexico, there is a graveyard for America’s war-birds by the name of Pima Air & Space Museum. In late 2011 artists organized to make opportunity of these streamlined fuselages, turning them into canvasses to serve as literal vehicles for the artists mediums and meanings. Peep the mini-documentary by Jason Wawro below, as well as some stills of a few of the projects.

Matthew Day Jackson

October 24, 2012 by capture-monger

Just came across the work of Matthew Day Jackson recently, and holy guacamole- he’s got some serious craft and conceptual action going on. In his exhibition entitled “Everything Leads to Another”, Jackson delves into issues of human potential, history, and the future. One of the most impressive pieces of this exhibit, is the reworked cockpit of a B-29 Bomber (the same “Superfortress” model that dropped the atomic bomb) into a Kubrick-esque office. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like he’s got a […]

Todd James

October 23, 2012 by capture-monger

Doodling and tagging the subway tunnels of NYC as a kid, Todd James has put forth an impressive career as a self-taught artist. Along the way he has collaborated with many famous musical acts, even designing the elephant logo below for the Beastie Boys back in the late 80′s. Venturing into 3-D, James played a role on the puppet design for Comedy Central’s show Crank Yankers. One of his most current projects is painting African pirates (showing over in Copenhagen, […]

The Decietful Boom

October 22, 2012 by capture-monger

The following images were taken in 2009 for my senior project entitled “The Deceitful Boom”. Photographing ghost towns throughout California & Nevada, traveling to Detroit, as well as documenting abandoned Wal-Marts, I set out to illustrate the interconnectedness & illogicality of it all. Here is an abstract from the project’s accompanying essay: “Witnessing the intensification of global crises such as peak oil, climate disruption, environmental disuse and ruination, over-population and its related issues of water & food scarcity; I have […]

Hipster Hilarity.

October 21, 2012 by capture-monger

Stumbled upon this great webisode project based out of Brooklyn, New York called “The Slope”. This 5 minute episode makes fun of the hipster scene, and good lord is it funny. CHECK IT OUT:
Season 2, Episode 7: “Fashion Forward” from The Slope on Vimeo</a>.
