Illustration Virtuoso: Nicholas Di Genova

November 26, 2013 by capture-monger

Masterful in his technique, Nicholas Di Genova has a style that is truly unique.  Beginning a piece by meditating and studying source materials and sketching, Di Genova begins with a simple pencil drawing and then layers quill pen strokes and paints on mylar film.  Surreal hybrid creatures he creates by fusing physical traits of different species are the main subject matter of his work.  Residing in Toronto, Nicholas has an immaculate eye & possesses exceptional attention to details.  Look at […]

Interntational Photo Round up From LENS.

November 24, 2013 by capture-monger

BUT NO-BAHDEH – WANNA […]

November 21, 2013 by capture-monger

“Various Episodes of Human Life Performed by Monkeys” is a series of etchings made by Quirin Boel & David Teniers back in the 17th century.  Seems like people had a pretty decent sense of humor back then after all!  (via BibliOdyssey)

Exploring Cardboard’s Potential as a Sculptural Medium.

November 20, 2013 by capture-monger

Chris Gilmour used to build models out of cardboard as ‘rough drafts’ & mock-ups for larger scale works out of bronze, wood, & stone; when he realized that the cardboard mockups were alluring their own right.  “The thing that I like is the contrast between a very poor material, and very beautiful objects, very desirable objects,” Gilmour says of his own work.  Spending a minimum of 3 months on each project, and sometimes up to half a year on the […]

Esoteric Geometrics + Sunday Hymnal Tune from Junip

November 17, 2013 by capture-monger

To say Fredrik Soderberg is fascinated by the occult and metaphysical, would be an understatement.  As a quasi-disciple of Carl Jung, Soderberg seeks to explore, and encourage thought in the connection between planes of immanence and the transcendental.  Alchemy, collective consciousness, hermetic traditions, and meditation are all inspirations for Frederik, who says: “One of the potentials of art is that it can work as magick, in the sense that it deals with an apprehension of reality that claims you can […]
