Sweet Skiing Video of El Niño Potential in Southern Utah.

October 20, 2014 by capture-monger

With the potential of a wee bit of El Niño (el niñito ;}) action this winter for Southern/Central Utah, some turns in the Bryce Canyon area could be a distinct possibility.  Check out the Provo brothers, rip up some red country in a carefully planned excursion to Bryce back in March of 2010.  RADDDDDD. Neil and Ian Provo are two awesome adventurers who make up the Provo Brothers.  Check out their sites for more risky exploits! After this is potential advertisers: Pay […]

Junk to Jamming Instruments.

October 1, 2014 by capture-monger

The story of the Landfill Harmonic Orchestra is one of the most inspiring tales of resourcefulness and transcendence one might ever hear and see.  The people of Cateura, Paraguay create beautiful sound out of what most anyone would consider trash.Be sure to check out their website and keep an eye out for screening tours in the near future.

Interstellar Message in a Bottle – The Voyager Space Missions

October 1, 2014 by capture-monger

Hurtling at speeds close to 40,000 mph ( aka 11 miles per second !!), the Voyager spacecrafts are in their 37th year of space travel.  Acting as a $422 million dollar ‘bottle’/vessel, the Voyager space vehicles have a very special interstellar message as their cargo.  Packed within a small hold aboard both Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 are golden LP size records with a stylus / needle to play them with (pictured above).  Included on the gold-plated copper records are […]

Exploring and Building in the Mountains of Mineral King, CA

September 29, 2014 by capture-monger

Mineral King in Sequoia National Park is a quintessential alpine environment.  With an elevation gain of 11,500 feet from the valley floor near Three Rivers, CA, Sawtooth Peak & Needham jut out dramatically in the central portion of the Sierra-Nevadas.  Walt Disney had grand plans to turn the area into a massive (think Mammoth) ski resort back in the 60’s, but the local residents prevented this from happening.  The Walt Disney Company reportedly still owns a few acres of land at […]

The Stupendous Style of Isaac Hastings.

July 13, 2014 by capture-monger

The Utah Arts Festival took place a few weekends ago, & as usual it was pretty fetchin’ rad.  In the coming week there will be a few posts on some of the favorites from the fest.  To kick it off we have some newer work from Issac Hastings (having been featured a couple times on CapturingCapacity, you’ll find links to his other features below the gallery).  Issac had a booth near the ‘street-art’ scene of the Library lawn, and was […]

Miscellanea to Entertain Ya! (#8)

June 10, 2014 by capture-monger

The stream of stimuli that has flooded our lives due to the internet is dumbfounding; especially when you hold the modern flow in comparison with that of only 20 years ago.  Debatably there are many positives and negatives, but it certainly can help to inspire.  Here are some miscellaneous images pulled from the unending search for thought provoking visuals and fascinating artifacts of human culture. If you’re digging on these images / theme of Miscellanea, you just might want to […]
