Unique Cultural Project/Critique via Scarfolk Council Blog

April 5, 2013 by capture-monger

Easily one of the most interesting concepts for a project/blog the internet has seen for some time, the faux blog of Scarfolk township is disturbingly hysterical.  Posing as a council of a small town perpetually caught in the 1970’s, the site churns out propaganda-ish material that imitates the style of literature and posters from the infamous decade.  Take a look at the Scarfolk website and some of the samples of their disinformation below for a chuckle. Distorted Sculptures and Anamorphic Magic.

April 4, 2013 by capture-monger

Jonty Hurwitz has created a very specialized niche in the sculptural art world by delving into anamorphic (“a distorted image that appears normal only from a certain view point or suitable mirror or lens”) creations.  Using scanners and complex algorithms, Hurwitz is able to produce sculptures whose original identity is only clearly seen with the aid of a cylindrical mirror.  There has been work of his featured on here before in a hodge-podgy post, but I recently found a skull […]

Detestingly Beautiful War / Photography Exhibit

April 3, 2013 by capture-monger

With incredible depth and a staggering amount of content, the exhibiton entitled ‘War / Photography:: Images of Armed Conflict and Its Aftermath‘ will test you.  Originally put together in Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts, the exhibition will be traveling nationally – first to the Anneberg Space for Photograph in Los Angeles, and then on to D.C. and Brooklyn.  Here is a synopsis from the site (link above): “WAR/PHOTOGRAPHY encompasses over 150 images going as far back as 1887 through present-day […]

SNL Brilliance With Christopher Walken and iPhone5.

April 3, 2013 by capture-monger

Having stumbled upon these sketches recently, I thought I’d throw them up here for yawl to sample.  The first one is Christopher Walken as a black angel, challenging notions of what angels should traditional look like and deceptive practices of Lucifer. This second is a skit from the most recent season of SNL with Christina Applegate hosting.  Cleverly creating an interaction between ‘techie’ bloggers and Chinese iPhone5 factory workers, there is an astute statement made about how Americans create drama […]

CHINESE Conundrum.

April 2, 2013 by capture-monger

Confuscious once quipped: “A man who runs in front of a car gets tired, A man who runs behind a car gets exhausted.”  It seems like he knew what a negative effect automobiles were to have on his fellow countrymen down the line (WWCD?).  Now-a-days China has become a juggernaut & is gagging on its own growth.  Influenced by pop-American lifestyles, Chinese now practice gown and tux marriages, eat fast food, smoke cigarettes, and drive cars in ever-increasing numbers.  Emulating […]

Gerald Ford vs Pele.

April 1, 2013 by capture-monger

Skimmin through AnotherMag’s site, I came upon this classic photo of Gerald Ford hanging out with an incredibly suave lookin Pele.  With impeccable soccer form, Gerald Ford shows how much grace the average American had back in the day – not too mention fashion sense.  This photo then also helped to recall a very humorous SNL sketch of Dana Carvey impersonating Tom Brokaw and discussing plausible causes of death for Gerald Ford (he was delicious).
