WONDROUS LIGHT refractions by Alan Jaras

December 12, 2012 by capture-monger

Alan Jaras is an amazing artist who uses glass, water, and goodness knows what else, to refract light directly on to film (as opposed to through a lens).  In so, he creates these stellar abstract works of enchantment which he refers to as “refractographs”.  Brilliant work Alan! PARTICLE,WAVE, or BOTH? (OTHER?)

The Peculiar Stylings of ARYZ !

December 11, 2012 by capture-monger

Easily one of the most progressive artists of the modern day art scene, ARYZ is simply on fire.  At only 23 years of age, he has painted dozens of massive murals (both in legal ‘street-art’ festivals, as well as the more traditional way) all over the world [scroll all the way down to the bottom of this post to witness a time-lapse of one of his giant murals].  Commissioned to create the cover art for the January issue of Juxtapoz […]

Conceptual Art by Myeongbeom Kim

December 11, 2012 by capture-monger

Originally from South Korea, Myeongbeom Kim studied Environmental Sculpture at the University of Seoul, and went on to receive her Masters of Fine Art at The Art institute of Chicago.  HIGHLY conceptual, Myeongbeom’s work seems to revolve around the transitory nature of things, and investigates the changing role of the natural world relative to man’s progress?  Either way it’s some really well executed art! CONTEMPLATE.

Beautifully Abstract Wash Paintings by Chad Mount

December 11, 2012 by capture-monger

Not totally sure how Chad Mount goes about making his incredible “Blooming Stream” paintings, but good lawd are they intriguing.  The large scale works are slightly reminiscent of chromatic chemical spills or abstract underwater scenery. SPLASHED & DASHED!

RADICAL Interactive Tron Skateboard Mini Ramp

December 10, 2012 by capture-monger

WAAYYYY back in December of 2010 Disney’s remake of Tron hit theaters world wide.  To build a bit of street cred and create some hype down in Melbourne, Australia, Disney employed the talents of local design outfit Eness to set up an event that wouldn’t fail to strike awe in the minds of all viewers.  Constructing a mini 4′ half pipe and calibrating imaging software and tall-dollar projectors, Eness produced a spectacle that none would soon forget. Employing infrared emitting […]

Jackie Chan Form: Snake in The Eagle’s Shadow

December 10, 2012 by capture-monger

This past weekend we watched “Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow”- Jackie Chan’s breakthrough movie from 1978.  Executing an outstanding ‘form’ (a sequence of strikes and positions of a given martial arts style) in the Snake-Fist technique, the intro to the film is a choreographic stunner.  As sacrilegious as it might be, we decided to dub in our own music throughout the film and just read the subtitles.  Synching the hits and battles with alternative beats was pretty awesome, so here […]

SNOWFLAKE Photos by Wilson Bentley.

December 10, 2012 by capture-monger

Back in the late 1870’s, a Vermont farm boy by the name of Wilson Bentley became infatuated with “ice flowers” (as he referred to snowflakes).  Only 30 years after photography made its debut on the world scene, Bentley jury-rigged a bellows camera to attach to a microscope so that he could document the “tiny miracles of beauty”.  Running around with a black velvet cloth during snow flurries, Bentley was considered about of a loon back in the 1880’s.  Using chicken […]

Feather Art by Chris Maynard.

December 9, 2012 by capture-monger

With unique technique, Chris Maynard creates dioramas with surgically sliced feathers.  Utilizing scalpels, forceps, and magnifying eye-glasses that are intended for eye surgery, Maynard carefully and cleverly extracts elements from a feather, and arranges them into impressive compositions. BIO-APPROPRIATION.
