Just in case you aren’t familiar with the ILFORD photography supply company, the featured image is a re-tweak on the packaging of the first rolls of film I used back in high school – ROOTS! For this 400th posting, we’ll be serving up just a whole lot of miscellanea with the vague theme of the Homo-sapiens incredible capacity to do rad shid. SO, like any good party, lets get some tunes rockin’ and pop some mind altering drugs (drugs […]

Alberto Seveso is a graphic designer / Photoshop guru, whose limited experience in photography didn’t keep him from experimenting with high speed photography. Mixing custom batches of paint and pouring them into tanks of water, Seveso made a niche for himself- even contracting out his photos to the likes of The Black Seeds for an album cover. Alberto’s most recent venture in his study of fluid dynamic aesthetics, involves replacing the water with oil – creating lava lamp-esque globules, of […]

Delving further into his study of ‘scientific art’, Fabian Oefner has churned out some more excellent work with the assistance of paint, balloons, and high speed photography. Simply drizzling balloons with a bright pallet of paint, Oefner detonates the balloon and captures the immediate aftermath of the paint’s path with the help of an audio trigger/sensor to fire the camera and strobes. Fabian has entitled the series ‘Liquid Jewel’. STUNNING SUSPENSIONS Check out some previous posts on Fabian Oefner’s work […]

Alexey Kljatov has successfully jury-rigged a macro lens on to a relatively inexpensive point&shoot digital camera (rough diagram at end of gallery below) to capture winter’s most treasured element: snowflakes. With infinite permutations of hexagonal-based frosty geometrics – words can’t begin to describe these magical and heaven-sent forms of frozen water. Here’s to Winter!! EVIDENCE OF A DIVINE ORDER? g

There are seemingly less and less positive / feel-good photos being taken now-a-days, so this round up took a bit longer to collect a few images from LENS that weren’t entirely depressing. Top three from the series = 1) Oil Pipeline explosion in China 2) Bubbles bringing joy in Philippines 3) Olympic flame to Space?! Also, what a totally insane tornado path of destruction. A certain Charles Bradley song comes to mind – Listen below the gallery. BUT NO-BAHDEH – WANNA […]

With Scandinavia’s long winter nights, it seems very fitting that Finland serve as the home of some of the world’s best Light Painters. Hannu Huhtamo, Jukka Laine, and Janne Parviainen make up the Light Painting artist group Valopaja, a Finnish word that translates as ‘Light Workshop’. The Valopaja have played a role in developing specialty computer software for creating light paintings through selective light sensitivity recording….just watch the video below the gallery. The Light Paintings below are all visions from […]

Refractographs are the result of shining a small beam of light through prismatic materials, and directing the refracted light into a lens-less camera body. The process, while simple over all, is a bit difficult to fully understand without visual aids, but in watching the tutorial below the gallery (courtesy of Rob Turney) you’ll be well on your way to making your own refractographs. The fleeting vaporous forms of the refractions captured by the camera’s sensor or film become one-of-a-kind abstract […]
