Optickles

June 30, 2025 by capture-monger

Bonjour yawl – the roll out of 500 articles of intrigue continues. Continually collecting art along travels through the hyperspace we know and love as the internet, I’ve amassed quite a trove of sight delights. Here is a mini curation of the ocular knick-knacks from the past decade. To pair with this visual variety pack, we have a track from Vulfpeck’s new album – an evolution of the absurd bass instrumental ‘Beastly’ from 2015. 10 years later, ‘New Beastly’ further […]

500th Post Parade + End of a decadal drought

June 5, 2025 by capture-monger

Innumerable cycles of inconceivably intricate systems (interacting on unfathomable scales, generating this ever-evolving involution that is our universe) have transpired since the last addition to this conglomeration of data and anima known as capturingcapacity.com – how we doing?!  Put a less verbose / much simpler way: one decade (to the day) has elapsed between the last post (499th) and this one (500th post!), but as they say: “butter latte, then nerf-war.”  A lil wordplay for ya there ;} – “better […]

June 5, 2015 by capture-monger

As we blast off into summer, you’re going to need some soundtrack supplies for adventures into stellar realms.  Below you’ll find a collection of melodies that will fire-up fine spirits and Vernal energies to propel and uplift way past the solstice.  Whether you have a convertible or not, in your mind’s eye you’ll soon have the top down, wind coursing through your hair, campfire in the seat next to you, fully stocked cooler piloting a motorcycle within arm’s reach, perpetual fireworks framing […]

March 6, 2015 by capture-monger

Woooo-Weeee !!! its da muh-fahkin weekend yawl !  Here are some tune-skeez to get the grooving started. There’s a couple more tracks coming up, but just wanted to say that if you dig these jams and have an open Sunday evening- you should consider  tuning into Alta Radio this Sunday from 6-8pm (Mountain Standard Time Zone).  I started to throw together some sets of music for a weekly show, and it’s great to have people tune in and interact / make […]

Smears, Swirls, and Sounds from Jack Vanzet

February 25, 2015 by capture-monger

Jack Vanzet is a triple threat artist, musical producer, and artistic director based outta Melbourne who is about to catch on fire (in a good way).  Here’s a sampling of his art, and below it you’ll find a musical number he put together along with other goodies: You might notice the Chet Faker concert/tour poster at the end of the collection there – apparently Mr.Vanzet and Chet are chums and hang out and do cool shit together.  So for fun, you’ll […]

Good News on KXL Pipeline, but more Battles to Come.

February 24, 2015 by capture-monger

President Obama performed one of his most memorable and positive presidential actions today by vetoing the proposed bill to implement the Keystone XL pipeline from the Alberta Tar Sands to the Gulf of Mexico.  This is all great news, but there are still many battles looming in the near future.  One of the most pressing and dangerous of these, is the current move by coal companies of the Powder River Basin (a large coal producing area occupying parts of Montana,Wyoming and […]

Pixel Drips & Decay – Art from Giacomo Carmagnola

January 26, 2015 by capture-monger

Stumbling across a piece of Giacomo Carmagnola’s art over on Another Reader, it was a no-brainer to look further into his portfolio (Giacomo’s tumblr).  Visually akin to a malfunctioning or broken screen/monitor, Giacomo’s work has a very digital and post-post-post-super-post modern aesthetic ;} .  Here are some examples of his evocative distortions:

The Ghosty Magic of Schlieren Images.

January 12, 2015 by capture-monger

Originally inspired by mirages and other types of natural phenomena like the twinkling of stars at night where the density of gas (as well as liquid), scientists in the 1860s devised an optical technique called Schlieren photography (the German word for ‘streak’) to isolate distorted light rays from factors such as heat, chemical reaction, and force.  Here is a hi-speed photo of a woman shooting a rifle in a Schlieren optical setup (a diagram for the setup can be found […]

Rad Bicycle Stunt-work in one of the best Music Videos of All Time.

January 11, 2015 by capture-monger

If you want to see one of the greatest music videos ever put together, look no freakin further than the masterwork below.  Back in 2010, the talented British electronic music producer Erol Alkan collaborated with a German producer by the moniker Boys Noize and they popped out this audio gem.  A hyper-classy video production by the name of El Niño (check out samples of their work here) got called in to create a music video for the superb electronica sounds – […]
